Walter Kuphal, Mittelalterliche Stadtecke
historic street with twin towers of a church, in the warm light of the setting sun, impasto painting, oil on plywood, c. 1920, signed lower right "W. Kuphal", painting ground with slight cracking, framed, folding dimensions c. 41 x 31 cm. Artist's info: German landscape painter and graphic artist (1890 Neuruppin to 1937 Neuruppin), 1906-10 trained as a lithographer at the lithography firm Oehmigke & Riemschneider, famous for their Neuruppiner Bilderbogen, then painter at the Gollert theatre painting workshop, further trained by Hans Licht and Georg Marschall in Berlin, military service in WW1. Returned to Neuruppin in 1919 and worked as a freelance artist, undertook study trips to southern Germany and the Harz mountains, member of the Reichsverband Bildender Künstler Deutschlands and the Vereinigung Bildender Künstler Berlins, Source: Vollmer, Dressler and Internet.
