Copenhagen Lidded Box with Insect Handles
Designed by Olaf Mathiesen in 1905 for Royal Copenhagen, underglaze blue wave and green stamp mark 1889-1922, incised and brush numbers, model number 672, decoration number 1326, painter's number 95 for J. Debois (active 1901-1934), oval form with slightly conical walls and flat slip lid, the two handles and the lid handle as sculpted dragonflies and a bee, respectively, as well as fine pastel-toned underglaze painting, decoration of discreet floral border, central leaf and staffage. the two handles and the lid handle as plastic dragonflies and a bee, respectively, as well as fine pastel coloured underglaze painting, decoration of discreet blossom border, central leaf and staffage, the rim of the mouth with tiny burn marks, the lid somewhat distorted due to the manufacturing process and professionally restored on the inside at the inverted ring, l 16 cm.
