Harro Pirch is a contemporary Austrian artist and representative of abstract realism. In 1966 he graduated as an academic painter and worked for many years as an art teacher at the HTL Moedling, at the Stoob Ceramics School and at the St. Georgs College in Istanbul. In 1971 he bought the tower house of Esterházy's fort in Unterrabnitz in Burgenland and founded the international Rabnitztaler Malerwochen. From 1990 he undertook annual painting and exhibition trips to Istanbul. He organized exhibitions with artists from Burgenland in Belgium, Germany and South Tyrol and an exhibition of the Rabnitztaler Malerwochen in the Nori gallery in South Korea. Again and again he is drawn to Turkey, where he paints with Sepp Laubner and Eduard Sauerzopf. In his works he dedicates himself primarily to the nature of Burgenland, rapeseed and grain fields in Naples yellow and chrome oxide green. He divides the landscape into stripes and circles, gives nature an apparent austerity and frames some pictures, such as window views, with gold and silver leaf. In 1979 Pirch received the prize of the Burgenland Foundation Theodor Kery, in 2000 the Great Decoration of Honor of the State of Burgenland and in 2004 the Culture Prize of the State of Burgenland for visual arts as well as in 2007 the Badge of Honor of the Federal Ministry for Education and Art.
