A FINE ICON SHOWING ST. JOHN THE MERCIFUL, PATRIARCH OF ALEXANDRIA Russian, 17th century Tempera on gessoed wood panel with kovcheg. 31 x 26.3 cm. Portrayed full-length, blessing and bearing the Gospelbook. The saint dressed in full Patriarchal attire, including the sakkos with cruciform decoration, the epigonation and the omophorion. The background stripped to gesso.
