summer view from an elevated location, of the high medieval sports castle Egloffstein on the 80 m high Rabenstein, above the valley bottom of the Trubach valley in Egloffstein in Franconian Switzerland in the Upper Franconian district of Forchheim, glazed, partially slightly impasto landscape painting, oil on canvas, circa 1930, signed lower right "W. Sprenger", somewhat restored, beautifully framed, folding dimensions approx. 58.5 x 42 cm. Artist info: German landscape, genre and Landscape, genre and portrait painter (1850 Rosenberg/West Prussia to 1943 Egloffstein), first destined to become a merchant, studied after 1880 at the Berlin academy under Karl Gussow, afterwards freelance in Berlin, attended here the Berlin art exhibitions, from June 1907 regular stays in Franconian Switzerland, from 1911 complete move to Egloffstein, member of the Verein Berliner Künstler and the Allgemeine Deutsche Kunstgenossenschaft, Source: Thieme-Becker, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon", Boetticher, Dressler, Müller-Singer, Künstlerlexikon Ostpreußen und Westpreußen and Fritz Preis in the article "Wilhelm Sprenger (1850-1943) - Ein bedeutender Genre- und Landschaftsmaler in Egloffstein".
