SOSSIDI CIGARETTER
Porcelain sign / enamel sign, curved, thickly stenciled, NOR around 1925, 30 x 50 cm, Plakatfabrik Stark & Riese, Tannroda-Thür., marked: Haanshuus-Reklame - this must be the concessionaire for Boos & Hahn in Norway, because I think it is impossible that the graphic artist signed this motif in such a simple way. The image of the two cylinder-carrying guys was a modern depiction of the Sossidi brothers, who ran a large tobacco house ("Sossidi freres") including production facilities in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg at the time, inspired by the art figure Charlie Chaplin. One can confidently speak of a dream state here - in any case, I am not aware of a better preserved example. GERMAN DESCRIPTION:Emailschild, gewölbt, dick schabloniert, NOR um 1925, 30 x 50 cm, Plakatfabrik Stark & Riese, Tannroda-Thür., gemarkt: Haanshuus-Reklame - es wird sich hierbei wohl um den Konzessionär für Boos & Hahn in Norwegen handeln, denn dass der Grafiker dieses Motiv in solch simple Art signiert, halte ich für ausgeschlossen. Das Bild der beiden zylindertragenden Kerlchen war eine moderne, durch die Kunstfigur Charlie Chaplin inspirierte Darstellung der Gebrüder Sossidi, die seinerzeit ein großes Tabakhaus ("Sossidi freres") samt Produktionsstätte in der Hansestadt Hamburg betrieben. Getrost kann man hier von einem Traumzustand sprechen - mir ist jedenfalls kein besser erhaltenes Exemplar bekannt.
