Max Oppenheimer was an Austrian artist of the 20th century and as such an important representative of the Austrian avant-garde. 1900 to 1903 studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, 1903 to 1906 at the Prague Art Academy. 1906 member of the Prague group OSMA (The Eight), including representatives of the Czech avant-garde such as Otakar Kubín, Emil Filla, Bohumil Kubišta and Emil Artur Longen. 1908 and 1909 participation in the art show in Vienna. Early influences of Vincent van Gogh, included the Viennese Expressionism around Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka and Albert Paris Gütersloh. 1911 to 1915 in Berlin, dealing with Cubism and working on the magazine Die Aktion. 1915 to 1925 in Switzerland began his involvement with the subject of music. In Berlin at the end of the 1920s and again in Vienna from 1931. In 1937, his works were classified as degenerate art by the Nazis. Created primarily portraits, religious depictions and scenes from everyday life. Numerous expressionist works with influences from cubism and futurism on the subject of music, impressive representations of composers, conductors, musicians and famous orchestras such as the string quartet founded by the brothers Arnold Rosé and Eduard Rosé in 1882. In 1938, Oppenheimer fled the Nazis, first to Switzerland and in 1939 to the USA.
