Hans Puehringer studied drawing and painting under Franz Matsch at the Kunstgewerbeschule. He was a founding member of the Klosterneuburg Artists' Association, in whose first exhibition in 1908 he was represented alongside Egon Schiele and other artists. As artistic advisor to the Imperial and Royal Court Opera's interior design department, he designed costumes and stage sets for more than 25 ballets and operas between 1911 and 1918. In 1914 Puehringer was drafted to the front. After his return in 1917, he worked at the Court Opera for another year. In addition to his work for the opera, he mainly created portraits, landscapes and genre scenes, as well as stage designs and costumes. His works are now represented in various Austrian museums and private collections.
