Vase with flowers
watercolor/paper, 99 x 70 cm
signed RPH

ESTIMATE € 1000 - 2000
STARTING PRICE € 1000

The Austrian painter Robert Philippi received his first artistic training from Robert Kautsky and at the private painting school Streblow in Vienna. From 1893 to 1896 he attended the Vienna Academy with Christian Griepenkerl and Josef Mathias Trenkwald and later the Vienna School of Applied Arts with Felicien Myrbach and Alfred Roller. He was Franz ?ižek's assistant there from 1914 and again from 1917 to 1920. Apparently, he was also a student at the Bauhaus in Weimar, because the annual folder published in 1919 by the Society for Reproducing Art in Vienna "Students of the Bauhaus" contains sheet 4 of his woodcut act /The "Frightened One". Philippi first created drawings and woodcuts and from 1925 he increasingly painted. Philippi was heavily influenced by Gustav Klimt. Until 1925 he was a member of the Hagenbund (e.g. Karl Hauk, Carry Hauser, Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel, Ernst Paar, Eduard Thoeny, Viktor Tischler).
