Marble sculpture "Thorn extractor", 19th c.Large sculpture made of white Carrara marble. It is a sub-life-size nude figure of a boy, depicted sitting on a rock. He holds in his left hand his left foot, which he has placed on his right knee. With his right hand he is picking a thorn out of the sole of his left foot. His right leg is bent, the foot is placed on the ground and the toe protrudes above the round plinth. The head is turned down towards the foot, the face is hidden from the viewer. It is stylized and not particularly sculpted. His wavy hair lies close to his head. At the nape of the neck they stand out slightly and encircle him with short thick corkscrew curls. Dimensions: height ca. 44 cm, Ø plinth ca. 27,5 cm, weight: 23,2 kg. Good condition with signs of age and use, right big toe bumped. Thorn extractor, also called Fedele or Spinario, is a Greco-Roman Hellenistic bronze sculpture of a child removing a thorn from the sole of his foot. It is now in the Palazzo dei Conservatori in Rome. Es handelt sich um eine unterlebensgroße nackte Figur eines Knaben, sitzend auf einem Felsen dargestellt. Er hält in seiner linken Hand seinen linken Fuß, den er auf das rechte Knie gelegt hat. Mit seiner rechten Hand pickt er einen Dorn aus seiner linken Fußsohle. Sein rechtes Bein ist angewinkelt, der Fuß ist auf dem Boden abgesetzt und die Zehe ragen über die runde Plinthe hinaus. Der Kopf ist nach unten zum Fuß gerichtet, das Gesicht bleibt vom Betrachter verborgen. Es ist stilisiert und nicht besonders plastisch gearbeitet. Seine welligen Haare liegen eng am Kopf an. Am Nacken stehen sie leicht ab und umkreisen ihn mit kurzen dicken Korkenzieherlöckchen. Maße: Höhe ca. 44 cm, Ø Plinthe ca. 27,5 cm, Gewicht: 23,2 kg. Guter Erhaltungszustand mit Alters- und Gebrauchsspuren, rechter großer Zeh bestoßen. Dornauszieher, auch Fedele oder Spinario genannt, ist eine griechisch-römische, hellenistische Bronzeskulptur eines Kindes, das einen Dorn aus seiner Fußsohle entfernt. Sie befindet sich heute im Palazzo dei Conservatori in Rom. Eine römische Marmorkopie dieses Motivs befindet sich in der Medici-Sammlung, die sich in einem Korridor der Uffizien in Florenz befindet.
