Full sculptural bronze figure group of two wrestlers around 1900Finely worked bronze of two muscular wrestlers which follows a more than 2000 years old model made of marble. This was discovered in 1583 during excavations in Rome and is since 1677 in Florence. The young male nudes are depicted performing the Hellenistic sport of pankration, a combination of wrestling and boxing. Even today, the original is considered one of the most famous antiquities in the Medici collections. Numerous bronze reductions have been made. A bronze sculpture by Massimiliano Soldani from 1710 is in the Bavarian National Museum. H. 25cm. Dieses wurde 1583 bei Grabungen in Rom entdeckt und befindet sich seit 1677 in Florenz. Die jungen Männerakte sind bei der hellenistischen Sportart Pankration dargestellt, eine Kombination aus Ringen und Boxen. Noch heute gilt das Original als eines der berühmtesten Antiken der Medici-Sammlungen. Zahlreiche Reduktionen aus Bronze wurden gefertigt.
