Golden snuff box, 18 century Daniel Govaers (or Gouers)
Capital antique gold snuff box, museum piece, France first half of the 18th century, contoured model richly decorated with acanthus leaves and palmettes. The lid features a representation of a female figure and putti. The representation on the back is partly worn off. MT.: Daniel Govaers (or Gouers), Paris, France, ca 1735. Size 7x4.5x2cm. about 100 grams. In good condition. These types of gold snuff boxes were commonly given by the French monarch as a reward for services to his court. The value of the box depended on the status of the person receiving it and the level of service provided. Foreign ambassadors also regularly received expensive gold chests from the king.
