A VERY FINE ICON SHOWNG THE VLADIMIRSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD Russian, 17th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. Finely executed on a gold ground. Depicted half-length, the Mother of God facing the onlooker while inclining her head towards her son and pointing at him with her right hand, Christ shown seated on her forearm in three-quarter view, looking at his Mother, his legs crossed, revealing his underfoot, their faces highlighted with fine white lines. A saint in monkish attire on the left border. Minor areas of retouching. 31 x 27.3 cm.
