OstLicht Camera Auction Spring 2023
By OstLicht Camera Auction
Jun 1, 2023
OstLicht Gallery, Absberggasse 27, 1100 Wien, Österreich, Austria

We are pleased to be able to present the camera auction on June 1, 2023 at 2 p.m. in OstLicht, gallery for photography. 1991 was the year of birth of the first Leica shop worldwide, in 2001 my team and I started the WestLicht auction house in Vienna. After 34 successful auctions with countless world record prices for cameras, I handed the camera auctions over to a group, also to concentrate on the WestLicht Photo and Camera Museum, the OstLicht Photo Gallery and the OstLicht Photo Auctions. However, when I was recently offered a private lover's fantastic collection, I couldn't resist the temptation. Especially since this man acquired most of the pieces he collected from me over the course of many years and always attached great importance to perfect condition and originality. The result is a collection that we are now offering with great pleasure in this auction. The traditional OstLicht Photo Auction begins on June 2 at 5 p.m. CEST. We cordially invite you to come to Vienna or to participate as a long-distance bidder. Our long-standing auctioneer Niki Schauerhuber and the team look forward to welcoming you.

Victor Houssin Le Phototank Prototype

Year/Baujahr: c.1923
Condition/Zustand: B

English

This forerunner of Leica for 50 exposures 24x24mm on unperforated 35mm film was invented by Henry Bayle and built by Victor Houssin, the unique design is inspirited by the famous tank by Luis Renault from WWI. The all-metal nickel plated camera has a metal focal plane shutter. The offered camera is a prototype for a later version which varies from the production camera including a frame finder, it has a Berthiot Stellor 3.5/50mm no.106302. The camera is in fine original condition, the shutter is blocked and the back door does not close properly. Engraved on both sides 'Bayle Houssin Bordeaux'. A truly museum piece, prototype of a camera which is extremely rare by itself.

Deutsch
