Michael on the Michelsberg, over the city of Bamberg, impasto veduta painting with brushwork full of character, oil on canvas and cardboard, c. 1930, signed lower right "Fr. K. Gembs", painting ground wavy, somewhat in need of restoration, framed, folding dimensions c. 48.5 x 60.5 cm. Artist's info: actually Franz Carl Gembs, signed "Fr. K. Gembs", German painter (1896 Bamberg to 1963 St. Michael near Spitz in the Wachau), studied at the art schools of Bremen and Nuremberg, pupil of Karl Selzer and Rudolf Schiestl, studied from the winter semester 1921/22 at the Munich Academy with Carl von Marr and Martin von Feuerstein, active in Bamberg, temporarily in Füssen, Source: Matricula of the Munich Academy and Internet.
