Deciduous trees on a summer lakeshore at dusk, impasto landscape painting, oil on panel, signed and dated "C. Strathmann 1924" at upper right, modern label to the artist on the reverse, retouching, mounted on plywood panel, painting ground slightly bulged, framed in a beautiful gold stucco frame, folding dimensions approx. 40 x 50 cm. Artist's info: Germ. Painter and illustrator (1866 Düsseldorf - 1939 Munich), 1882-86 studied at the academy of arts in Düsseldorf under Adolf Schill, Heinrich Lauenstein and Hugo Crola, 1886-89 studied at the art school in Weimar and here 1888-89 master student under Leopold Graf von Kalckreuth, 1891 moved to Munich and here became friends with Lovis Corinth, around 1900 studio together with Adelbert Niemeyer and Alexander von Salzmann, active as draughtsman for Fliegende Blätter, Jugend and Simplicissimus, he was among others a member of the Free Association of XXIV, the German Artists' Association, the Berlin Secession and the Association of Munich Watercolourists , source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer and Wikipedia.
