Alfons Karpinski, Rosenstillleben
Alfons Karpinski, Rose Still Life
White roses in a glass vase in a stately interior, low impasto painting with a dry brush incorporating the colourfulness of the painting ground, on this Anna Szlązak writes "... [in Paris after 1922 Karpiński] managed to meet Olga Boznańska. Under the influence of her painting, Karpiński's palette underwent a slight change, it became a little brighter, there were attempts to use the achievements of Impressionism, the oscillations of light and an even greater softness of painting ... [with unusual blurs that] ... give the impression of haze, mood swings or the use of the natural colour of cardboard. ... His still lifes and depictions of intimate, secluded interiors with a sumptuous chest of drawers, an elegant chair, household objects ... were appreciated. The decorative interiors also became an opportunity to display wonderful flowers: Roses, peonies, anemones, whose ephemeral nature and sublime hues the artist loved to study. Still lifes, characteristically slightly "out of focus", in a muted hue create a calm mood. Every citizen wanted Karpiński's "Flowers" on the wall. ...", oil on cardboard, c. 1930, indistinctly signed "A. Karpinski" at the bottom, painting ground slightly wavy, few scratches, minor need of restoration, framed (best.), folding dimensions approx. 62 x 67 cm.
