Prof. Eduard Schleich, Gebirgige Sommerlandschaft
Prof. Eduard Schleich, Mountainous Summer Landscape
Well, Landscape on the Isar, study-like, flippantly captured, gossamer-atmospheric, impasto landscape painting with a loose brushstroke in warm-toned colours, Boetticher writes: "... The picturesque character of the Alpine world also initially prompted Schleich to depict it; subsequently he found inspiration for the most magnificent pictures in the surroundings of Munich, in the meadows of the Isar, in the Dachau Moos and in the plains of Upper Bavaria in their various moods. ..." and Wikipedia adds "... [Schleich] set himself the task of giving the overall impression of the natural scenery, of depicting the infinitely changing play of light poured over the landscape by atmospheric processes, and of treating the landscape motif merely as a carrier of light and masses of colour. ...", the painter, who was dignified as the German John Constable, found lively advocacy throughout his life, Seubert writes (1879) "... Schleich, the founder of the newer landscape, was a poetically musical nature, the colours were tones to him; which he knew how to combine in melodious harmony. Some of his Isar regions are to be tuned in art, of magical power. ...", signed lower left "Ed. Schleich", on the reverse various modern annotations such as "Eduard Schleich der Ältere 1812-1874" and owner's annotation Frankfurt am Main, somewhat restored, partial tent-like peeling of the painting layer, in need of restoration, framed in an old gold stucco frame (old repaired), folding dimensions approx. 32 x 47 cm.
