Near a village, on the tree-covered stone shore of a mountain lake, mooring barge, minimally impasto painting, oil on canvas, c. 1870, signed lower left "Georg Carre" (pseudonym for Karl Julius Rose), craquelure, stretcher slightly showing, in need of cleaning, framed in gold stucco moulding with laurel frieze, folding dimensions c. 33 x 27.5 cm. Artist info: Pseudonyms Antonio Rose and Georg Carré, German landscape painter (1828 Königsbrück near Dresden until 1911 Munich), 1836 his family went to Munich, apprenticeship as sculptor, promotion by the Countess von Hohenthal, studied painting at the Academy of Arts in Dresden with Christian Gottlob Hammer, study trips to Italy and Switzerland followed, Source: Thieme-Becker, Bénézit, Busse and Wikipedia.
