summer mountain landscape with hikers on the wooden square in front of a board-cutting mill, study-like, fleetly captured, glazed, partially slightly impasto painting, oil on canvas, c. 1890, unsigned, stamp of a Munich painting utensil shop on the reverse of the canvas, pre-printed label on the stretcher with attribution "Original von August Niedmann, München - geb. 13 [sic! correct would be: 3] May 1826, d. 18 January 1910 - confirmed by the ..." and handwritten indistinctly added "Granddaughter Tilde ... née Niedmann", on the reverse of the frame label with biographical information about the artist from Müller-Singer, minor craquelure, old retouching, paint chips, in need of restoration, in a very nice Impressionist gold stucco frame, folding dimensions approx. 49 x 61 cm. Artist info: German genre painter (1826 Brunswick to 1910 Ried near Benediktbeuren), son and initially pupil of his father, the painter of the Stobwasser lacquerware factory Martin David Niedmann (1790-1860?), studied at the Collegium Carolinum in Brunswick, here he was a pupil of the landscape painter and inspector of the Brunswick gallery Heinrich Brandes (1803-1868), 1850 he moved to Munich, studied at the academy of arts in Munich under Wilhelm von Kaulbach from 1851, then freelance in Munich, 1891 moved to Ried near Benediktbeuren [today Kochel am See], member of the Munich Artists' Association, participated in art exhibitions in Berlin, Bremen, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne, Hanover and Vienna , source: Thieme-Becker, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon", Matrikel der Akademie München, Müller-Singer, Boetticher, Bruckmann "Münchner Maler des 19.
