Boats and ships on a wide river, under a loosely clouded sky, ink and charcoal on paper, 1st half 20th century, signed lower left "S. Wencke", on frame back label "Auf der Weser bei Rönnebeck" and addition "Bremen", paper browned and drawing somewhat faded, framed under mount and behind glass, mount cut-out approx. 24.5 x 32.5 cm. Artist's info: German painter and graphic artist (1874 Bremerhaven to 1963 Worpswede), 1891-93 studies at the academy of arts in Dresden, 1893-97 studies in Berlin, among others with Hermann Pansee, Berta Schrader and Max Uth, from 1898 active in Worpswede, here pupil of Otto Modersohn, numerous joint exhibitions with Fritz Overbeck and Heinrich Vogeler, from 1916 stays in Selb and work for Hutschenreuther, sources: Vollmer and Wikipedia.
