Artist info: German sculptor (1884 Kempten to 1970 Munich), from 1904 studied at the Munich School of Arts and Crafts, from 1909 worked as a sculptor in Dresden and Berlin, 1911 Rome Prize, 1922-1928 worked on the war memorial for the fallen of World War 1. From 1926 professorship from the Free State of Bavaria, from 1930 lectureship for "sculpture" at the TH Munich, from 1933 occupational ban by the Nazi government, 1949 honorary member of the Academy of Fine Arts, 1951 member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts, 1959 Bavarian Order of Merit and 1964 Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his work, 1969 honorary doctorate at the TH Munich, worked with different materials and in different techniques, also his motifs, some of which were depicted in a highly abstracted manner, varied greatly, numerous public works are known.
