Late summer idyll with young elegant couple in front of ripening wine at a table with a bowl of fruit in the sunshine, under a bright blue sky, while the young woman pensively plays the guitar, the young man looks thoughtfully at the viewer of the painting, probably an allegory of earthly pleasures and the comforts of life, glazed Art Nouveau painting with a brushstroke full of character, oil on canvas, monogrammed and dated "KS-E 1910" at lower left, several inscriptions on the reverse of the canvas, including the signature, date and place name "Karl Schmoll v. Eisenwerth Stuttgart 1910". Eisenwerth Stuttgart 1910", minor craquelure, backed areas of loss in the canvas, retouching, partially plastered and scratched, somewhat in need of restoration, framed in the original octagonal Art Nouveau frame (rest.bed.) with oval picture frame, folding dimensions approx. 103 x 127 cm. Artist's info: actually Karl Schmoll, called himself like his father "Schmoll von Eisenwerth", German-Austrian painter, draughtsman, graphic artist, craftsman, poster and glass artist (1879 Vienna to 1948 Gut Osternberg near Braunau am Inn), childhood in Vienna, from 1889 in St. Wendel and from 1895 in Darmstadt. Wendel and from 1895 in Darmstadt, here first painting lessons with Richard Hoelscher and contact with Art Nouveau, 1898-1902 studies at the Academy in Munich with Ludwig von Herterich and Paul Hoecker, influenced by Joseph Maria Olbrich and Ferdinand Hodler, maintained contacts with the Dachau artists' colony, He was a regular painter in Dachau, Burghausen and at Lake Chiemsee. At the same time he worked as a designer for the glassworks of Ferdinand von Poschinger in Buchenau, exhibited at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 and at the Darmstadt Artists' Colony in 1901 and 1909, 1902 travels to Rome with Carl Kaspar, Hermann Haller and Paul Klee, from 1903 studio in Munich-Schwabing, 1904-07 teacher of drawing and printing techniques at the private Debschitz School in Munich, 1907-46 professor at the Technical College in Stuttgart, creates several murals, since 1924 landowner in the Austrian Osternberg near Braunau am Inn, 1927-29 rector of the Stuttgart Technical College, 1905-39 member of the Vienna Secession, from 1924 member and guildmaster of the Innviertler Künstlergilde, member of the Künstlerbund Stuttgart, in the St.-Lukasgilde Amsterdam, in the Freie Vereinigung Düsseldorfer Künstler, in the Deutscher Künstlerbund Weimar, in the Bund zeichnender Künstler Münchens and in the Deutscher Werkbund, active in Stuttgart and Osternberg, Source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon", Matrikel der Akademie in München, Bruckmann "Münchner Maler des 19./20.
