Summer landscape with a pair of strollers resting in the shade of three tall trees and enjoying the view of the wide landscape of the Munich environs, impasto, loose plein air painting with moving brushwork, oil on cardboard, 1st half 20th c., signed "M. Nicolaus" lower left, labels on cardboard reverse "Martin Nicolaus (d. Stuttgart) Baumgruppe bei Schleißheim" as well as "Sommertag von Mart. Nicolaus, Mr Kam. Rat. Schwarz", cardboard bumped along the margins, minor loss of painting layer at upper margin, cardboard wavy, framed, folding dimensions ca. 61 x 71 cm. Artist info: Germ. Landscape and figure painter as well as graphic artist (1870 Neumarkt in Silesia until 1945 Erkenbrechtsweiler), trained porcelain painter, from 1895 studies at the art and trade school Breslau with Carl Ernst Morgenstern, afterwards work as stage painter, from 1905 studied at the Stuttgart Art Academy with Christian Ladenberger and Adolf Hölzel, contacts with the Dachau artists' colony, frequently painted in the Swabian Alb, worked in Stuttgart,between 1909 and 1943 almost annual stays in Dachau or Schleißheim, member of the exhibitors' association Künstlerbund Stuttgart, source: Thieme-Becker, Wikipedia.
