Clara Hoppenrath, Lilacs and Peonies
Spring-like arrangement of pink peonies and violet lilacs in a wicker basket, low impasto still life painting in finely coordinated colours, oil on painting panel, c. 1930, signed lower right "C. Hoppenrath", old label on the reverse "Galerie Remmler & Co, No. 2667 - Leipzig, Tröndlinring 3.", minimal signs of age, oval framed, folding dimensions approx. 70 x 100 cm. Artist's info: German painter (c. 1870 to after 1930), 1893 supported with the Duncker scholarship, 1894-1916 member of the Verein der Berliner Künstlerinnen, whose exhibitions she attended in 1894 and 1898, mentioned in Dressler 1921 and 1930 as working in Berlin, source: Dressler and "Käthe, Paula und der ganze Rest".
