Prof. Walter Geffcken, Gallant Scene in the Park
Elegantly dressed baroque society under trees in a summery park, studiously and fleetly captured genre painting, oil on cardboard, c. 1930, signed lower left "W. Geffcken", on the reverse fragment of a portrait of a gentleman, here signed and dated "Geffcken 1928", retouched, framed, folding dimensions approx. 33.5 x 47.5 cm. Artist info: Germ. Painter (1872 Hamburg to 1950 Kreuth near Rosenheim Upper Bavaria), 1889-91 pupil of Heinrich Knirr's painting school in Munich, 1891-94 studied at the Académie Julian in Paris with Jean Paul Laurens and Benjamin Constant, afterwards longer study stay in Italy, from 1905 active in Munich, contributed to the Munich magazine "Jugend", exhibited at the Glaspalast Munich, member of the "Luitpoldgruppe" Munich, member of the Reichsverband Bildender Künstler Deutschlands, the Münchner Künstlergenossenschaft and the Künstlerbund Bayern, represented in the art collections of Bonn, Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Mannheim, Nuremberg and Würzburg , source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Dressler, Bruckmann, Glaspalast catalogues and internet.
