Paul Emil Gabel, Krane im Hamburger Hafen
Cranes in Hamburg harbour, in front of them ships and boats on gentle waves, impasto marine painting in varied brushwork, oil on canvas, 1930s, signed lower left "P. E. Gabel", minimal craquelure in places, slight need of cleaning, framed, folding dimensions approx. 35 x 50.5 cm. Artist info: German painter, lithographer and etcher (1875 Elbing/West Prussia until 1938 Hamburg), painter's apprenticeship with his uncle and foster father Carl Quintern in Elbing, studied 1893-1900 at the Akad. Düsseldorf with Arthur Kampf, Eduard von Gebhardt and Peter Jansen, 1900-03 member of the Düsseldorf art association "Malkasten", from 1903 active in Elbing in West Prussia, undertook study trips to the Netherlands (Dordrecht, Amsterdam, Zuidersee), to Italy, Egypt, Morocco and southern Germany, end of 1929 move to Hamburg, attended the exhibitions in the Glaspalast Munich, in the Königsberg Art Association and the Great Berlin Art Exhibition, Source: Dressler and Internet.
