Wilhelm Geissler, attr, Reading Boy
A blond boy with a white collar reading a note, next to a box with further notes, against a dark background, barely impasto, fine portrait painting, oil on wood, monogrammed and dated in ligature lower right "WG. [18]85", inscribed on the reverse "Geissler", somewhat plastered, minimal loss of painting layer, framed in gold stucco moulding, folding dimensions approx. 20.5 x 13.5 cm. Artist's info: German painter, graphic artist and lithographer (1848 Hannover to 1928 Berlin), son of the illustrator Robert Geissler, from 1874 to 1876 studied at the Berlin academy of arts, from 1877 worked as a lithographer, from 1883 drawing teacher at the first Berlin craftsmen's school, from 1913 its director, from 1890 painted mainly Berlin street scenes, from 1908 Alpine landscapes, exhibited among others in Berlin until 1893 at the exhibitions of the Royal Academy of Arts, 1918 special exhibition at the Berlin Künstlerhaus, sources: Thieme-Becker, Wikipedia.
