Nightly scene on the beach with groynes reaching into the sea and waves illuminated by the moon and shadowy dunes in the background, impasto painting in muted colours, oil on plywood, c. 1970, artist's stamp on the reverse "H. Werner Neucoswiger Str. 9 8252 Coswig", painting support warped, somewhat dirty, unframed, dimensions approx. 55.5 x 71 cm. Artist info: Germ. Painter, graphic artist and porcelain artist (1928 Coswig to 2019 Coswig), 1943-53 apprenticeship as porcelain painter, from 1957 decorator at the state porcelain manufactory Meissen 1959-62 guest student at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (HfBK) Dresden, from 1960 member of the collective for artistic development with Peter Strang and Ludwig Zepner, 1967-71 external studies at the HfBK Dresden with Rudolf Bergander and Jutta Damme, Werner developed more than 100 decorations including Blue Orchid on Branch, 1001 Nights and Hunter's Latin, also designed murals made of Meissen porcelain, 1973 Art Prize of the GDR, from 1978 professor at the Burg Giebichenstein College of Art and Design in Halle, 2009 appointed honorary citizen of Coswig.
