Sitting on a branch with splendid plumage and branches with fruits in the background, see catalogue raisonné Götze D 38, colour woodcut on Japanese paper, 1931, signed in lead "M. E. Philipp" below the image on the right, monogrammed "MEPH" on the lower right in the stock, slightly browned and minimally stained, framed under mount and behind glass, image dimensions approx. 47.5 x 16 cm. Artist's info: monogrammed "MEPH", German-Jewish painter andJewish painter and graphic artist (1887 Zwickau to 1978 Dresden), studied 1904-08 at the Dresden School of Arts and Crafts, 1908-13 at the Academy of Arts under Oskar Zwintscher and Osmar Schindler, master student of Gotthardt Kuehl and Richard Müller at the Dresden Academy, received numerous awards, among others the Saxon State Medal at the Bugra Leipzig in 1914, member of the Reichsverband Bildender Künstler Deutschlands and the Dresdner Kunstgenossenschaft, later member of the Verband Bildender Künstler (VBK) of the GDR, active in Dölzschen near Dresden , source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Dressler, Eisold "Künstler in der DDR", Kürschners "Graphikerhandbuch" 1967 and Wikipedia.
