also called Fräulein Westphal, young woman with slightly tangled hair and splendid necklace, see catalogue raisonné Lau 185, drypoint, partly ground, 1956, signed in lead "Hassebrauk" below the image on the right, titled and inscribed "Bildnis Jutta Kaltnadel" on the lower left and dedicated "Herzliche Grüße" on the right, minimally stained and slightly soiled, image dimensions approx. 39,5 x 25 cm, sheet dimensions approx. 61 x 43 cm. Artist's info: German painter, draughtsman and graphic artist (1905 Dresden to 1974 Dresden), first 1925-27 pupil of the Dresden School of Arts and Crafts and the Dresden Technical College with Jörg Klemm and Carl Rade, 1927-29 studies of philosophy and art history at the University of Leipzig, parallel 1927-32 studies at the State Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Trade (HBK) with Alois Kolb, H. Stolzmann, Bruno Heroux and later master student of Willi Geiger, afterwards working as a drawing teacher in Leipzig, 1932 honoured with the Saxon State Prize and the Holstein Scholarship, from 1933 restriction of his work and 'inner emigration', undertook study trips through Germany, In 1938 he moved to Dresden-Loschwitz and succeeded Woldemar Winkler as teacher and director of his private painting and drawing school. After 1945 he was appointed teacher at the HBK Leipzig. 1949 dismissal as a result of the "formalism debate", from then on freelance in Dresden, 1964 trip to Bavaria, Upper Italy and Venice, 1968 trip to Hungary, member of the VBK of the GDR, source: Vollmer, Eisold "Künstler in der DDR" and internet.
