Theodor Wende, Design for a Jeweller's Work
Detailed design for an ornamental object in the style of the time, graphite on light cardboard, inscribed by hand in the right-hand area "Salur publica suprema lex, ordered by the Badischer Landtag for the Deutsche Gewerbeschau München 1922, executed by Prof. Wende Kunstgewerbeschule Pforzheim", lower right elaborately drawn signature "Theodor Wende Pforzheim 1922", minimally yellowed and bumped at the corners, dimensions of the image ca. 60,5 x 44,5 cm, dimensions of the sheet ca. 64,5 x 48,5 cm. Artist's info: German gold- and silversmith (1883 Berlin - 1968 Pforzheim), from 1898 apprenticeship in Berlin, until 1905 journeyman goldsmith, 1905-07 studies at the state academy of arts in Hanau, 1908-12 studies at the school of arts and crafts in Berlin, 1913-21 member of the 'Darmstädter Künstlerkolonie', here successor of Ernst Riegel, after military service in World War I working as a gold- and silversmith. World War I, worked as a goldsmith and silversmith in Darmstadt, 1921-51 professor at the Badische Kunstgewerbeschule Pforzheim, a large part of his estate is kept in the Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt, source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer and Wikipedia.
