A berry-processing woman with headscarf at a window, charcoal and some opaque white, signed and dated "Ast (19)23" in lead below the image on the right and titled "Hollermus" on the lower left, figure study in lead and inscribed "Schaefer-Ast leihweise!", furthermore stamped "Nachlass Prof. Schaefer-Ast *7.1.1890 +15.9.1951" and handwritten number "21" and signature, stained, slightly yellowed and traces of mounting on the reverse, sheet dimensions approx. 36 x 27 cm. Artist's info: also Albert-Schäfer-Ast, German draughtsman and caricaturist (1890 Barmen to 1951 Weimar), apprenticeship as a sculptor, 1906-11 studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule Düsseldorf, worked for various magazines, participated in the 1st World War, was dismissed by the National Socialists as an artist. World War I, classified as degenerate by the National Socialists and partially banned from working and exhibiting, active again under certain conditions from the mid-1930s, lost his flat in a bombing raid on Berlin in 1943, moved to Prerow on the Darß, worked again as a caricaturist for the Ulenspiegel from 1946, appointed professor at the State College of Architecture and Fine Arts in Weimar, source: Vollmer, Eisold "Künstler in der DDR" and Wikipedia.
