Two prints, Albert Heinrich Brendel, Im Schafstall, etching, c. 1890, signed in the plate "A. Brendel", somewhat brown-stained, dimensions of depiction c. 18 x 23.5 cm, dimensions of sheet c. 37 x 50 cm; Heinrich Ludwig von Gleichen-Rußwurm, Schäfer in flacher Landschaft, lithograph, c. 1900, monogrammed "G-R" in the stone, stained, tears in the margins, slightly dusty and minor damage, approx. 22.5 x 40 cm, sheet approx. 36 x 53 cm. Artist's note Albert Heinrich Brendel: actually Albert Heinrich Brendel, German animal painter and graphic artist. Animal painter and graphic artist (1827 Berlin - 1895 Weimar), first pupil of the landscape painter Wilhelm Schirmer, studied at the academy of arts in Berlin, further educated by the marine painter Wilhelm Krause, at the same time studied animal painting at the veterinary school in Berlin, 1851 study trip via Holland, Normandy to Paris, here pupil of Thomas Couture and the landscape and animal painter Guiseppe Palizzi, 1852 study trip through Italy and Sicily, 1854-64 active in Paris with summer stays in Barbizon and connection to the group of painters of Théodore Rousseau, Jean-François Millet and Constant Troyon in the forest of Fontainebleau, 1869-75 resident in Berlin, 1875 moved to Weimar and appointed professor at the Weimar art school, 1882-85 its director, honorary member of the Berlin academy, active in Berlin, Barbizon and Weimar, Source: Thieme-Becker, Meyers Konversationslexikon and internet. Artist info Heinrich von Gleichen-Rußwurm: actually Heinrich Ludwig von Gleichen-Rußwurm, German painter and graphic artist. Painter and graphic artist (1836 Greifenstein Castle in Bonnland/Lower Franconia until 1901 Weimar), 1865 after the early death of his wife he turned to painting, 1869 he was promoted by Grand Duke Carl Alexander of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach and moved to Weimar, Studies at the Grand Ducal School of Art with Max Schmidt and from 1871 with Theodor Hagen, 1876 stays in France and is influenced by the Barbizon School, on the advice of Albert Brendel he learns the etching technique, numerous study trips to France, Italy, Helgoland, Sources: Thieme-Becker, Wikipedia.
