Prof. August Gaul, pair of reliefs pheasants and wild geese
circa 1920, signed, bronze brown resp. greenish patinated, long rectangular reliefs with flying wild geese resp. pheasants, originally executed in silver for an inkpot, mounted on wooden plates, wall suspension on the back, in good condition due to age, dimensions of plaque 5,2 x 15,5 and 5,0 x 14,9 cm, total dimensions each 7 x 17,5 cm. Artist's info: important German animal sculptor and graphic artist (1869 Groß-Auheim until 1921 Berlin), from 1888 in Berlin, 1894-98 worked in the studio of Reinhold Begas, 1888 member and from 1902 in the board of the Berlin Secession, an association of artists like Max Liebermann, Louis Tuaillon a. Walter Leistikow, many national as well as international exhibitions, e.g. in Paris, St. Louis or Venice. Source: Thieme-Becker and J.
