Paul Dubois, Drinking Clochard
circa 1900, signed P. Dubois, bronze brown patinated, drinking street boy with water jug, on round fluted base, the top naturalistically designed, attribute missing, partial signs of age, h total 67 cm. Artist info: French sculptor and portrait painter (1829 Nogent-sur-Seine to 1905) also known as Dubois-Pigalle, first studied law, but gave this up in favour of sculpture, his great uncle Jean-Baptiste Pigalle received much recognition for his work, which probably significantly motivated Dubois to follow in his footsteps, he therefore probably made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1857 under the name Dubois-Pigalle, from 1858 he studied in Armand Toussaint's sculpture class at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts, he travelled to Rome and Florence and studied classical works there and came into contact with many other artists, he received numerous prizes and his works are still exhibited in various museums today.
