Martin Schauss, standing female nude
Early 20th century, signed "Martin Schauss", bronze brown patinated, standing female nude in a dancing pose, her head resting on her neck and her eyes closed in contemplation, on a small round plinth with rounded top, on high, dark marble base, minimal signs of age, h bronze 37 cm, h total 53 cm. Artist info: Schauß too, German sculptor and medallist (1867 Berlin to 1927 ibid.), nephew of the portrait painter Ferdinand Schauss, studied at the Königliche Porzellan Manufaktur Berlin, 1888-1891 studied sculpture at the Berlin Akademie der Künste under Fritz Schaper and Ernst Herter among others, travelled Paris for several years and studied at the Académie Julian under the medallists Henri Chapu and Denys Puech, back in Berlin he worked temporarily at KPM again until he won the Grand State Prize of the Berlin Academy, then he travelled to Rome, then he settled and worked as a freelance artist in Berlin, 190 member of the Berlin Masonic Lodge "Zum Goldenen Pflug", attended the Great Berlin Art Exhibition several times and won several prizes there.
