Wilhelm Krieger, Bust of an Art Nouveau Lady
circa 1910, verso signed Wilh. Krieger Munich, bronze brown patinated, bust depiction of a pensive lady with elaborately braided hair and dress with ornamental band, verso a small production-related hole (4 mm), patina with tiny traces of age, rare, hitherto unknown depiction, h 40 cm, w 44 cm. Artist's info: German sculptor (1877 Norderney to 1945 Herrsching am Ammersee), left the grammar school, the apprenticeship as a decorative painter in Bremen as well as the school of arts and crafts in Munich without graduation in each case, from approx. 1901 he trained as a sculptor autodidactically, from 1903 partner of the firm Zierhut & Krieger Munich, freelancer for the Keramische Werkstätten in Herrsching and soon resident there, member of the Vereinigte Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk, which was one of the founders of the Deutscher Werkbund, which still exists today, from 1907 he exhibited from exhibitions of the Munich Secession and many other national exhibitions, 1927 honorary doctorate by the Bavarian Ministry of Culture, designed for various manufacturers of porcelain.
