Giovanni Battista Piranesi
1720 Venedig - 1778 Rom - "Veduta della Piazza di Monte Cavallo" - Radierung/Papier. Mittelfalz. 48 x 70,5 cm (Passepartoutausschnitt). In der Platte sign. l. u.: Cavalier Piranesi del. e inc. Passepartout. Unter Glas gerahmt. Ungeöffnet. Fehlstellen in den oberen Ecken (partiell rest.). Partiell rissig sowie vereinzelt fleckig. - Lit.: Hind 103. Piranesi war Kupferstecher und Architekt. Er ist bekannt durch seine Ruinendarstellung antiker Bauwerke in Rom. 1766 wird Piranesi von Papst Clemens XIII zum Ritter vom Goldenen Sporn ernannt, den Titel 'Cavaliere' trägt er nach der Ausstellung der päpstlichen Urkunde, von nun an signiert er seine Werke meist mit 'Cavalier Piranesi'.
