Ernst Hassebrauk (1905-1974), painter and graphic artist from Dresden, studied there and in Leipzig, where he became a master student of Willi Geiger. Under the Nazis he was banned from exhibiting. In 1947 he was appointed professor. Werner Tübke was one of his students. Mors certa sed hora incerta'' (Death is certain, the hour uncertain), vanitas motif in the midst of war ruins, drypoint etching on wove paper (papier vélin), signed by his own hand lower right, light margin, mounted behind passepartout, 30 x 49 cm, passepartout 46 x 65 cm.
