Technique: Verbund zweier Bretter mit zwei Rückseiten-Sponki. Kowtscheg, Eitempera auf Kreidegrund, versilberte Nimben goldfarben lasiert

A MONUMENTAL ICON SHOWING CHRIST THE SAVIOUR OF SMOLENSK FROM A CHURCH ICONOSTASIS Russian, 17th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The haloes made of silver, covered by a golden lacquer. Christ represented standing in a frontal position, his right hand raised in a blessing gesture and his left hand holding the Gospels. To either side of him two saints kneeling in prayer at his feet. In the upper part of the icon, to the right and left of Christ, are angels with the instruments of the Passion. Vertical crack minimally restored. 137 x 56.5 cm.
