A MONUMENTAL ICON OF THE TIKHVINSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD FROM A CHURCH ICONOSTASIS KIRCHEN-IKONOSTASE Russian, Novgorod, 15th century Russland, Nowgorod, 15. Jh. Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The haloes made of gold. The panel depicting the Mother of God half-length against a green background wearing a brown tunic. The Virgin’s maphorion is decorated with stars on the forehead and shoulders. The Mother of God gesturing towards her son on her left arm and slightly inclining her head towards him. The Christ Child making a sign of blessing and holding a closed scroll. The Mother of God and Child painted with saturated colours. Partially restored. 72 x 61 cm.
