A TRIPTYCH SHOWING THE DEISIS AND STS. PETER AND PAUL Mainland Greece, circa 1400 Tempera on wood panels with carved rope-twist borders. Executed on a gold ground. The central panel with the oversized figure of Christ resting on two cushions seated on a wooden throne with a curved back and gothic terminals. His feet resting on a suppedaneum. His hand raised in blessing, supporting the Gospels on his knee. The wings showing the Mother of God and John the Baptist inclining their heads towards him, raising their hands in supplication. The lower registers of the wings depicting Sts. Peter and Paul. Minor losses, minimally restored, wearings. 26 x 33 cm (extended).
