RUSSIAN ARTIST, ACTIVE IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE 19th CENTURY
Portrait of Russian diplomat
Oil on canvas, cm. 67,5x56,5
It is a portrait of a Russian diplomat active in the early decades of the 19th century. The portrayed is almost certainly of Polish origin because he appears to have been awarded both the Russian cross of knight of St. Vladimir and the Polish cross of St. Stanislaus: two presitigious honors that were granted for high merits in the civil or military field. The diplomat is depicted in a uniform with golden buttons with a double-headed eagle, details that make it possible to identify the time of execution and the position of the character.
