Description:
Illustration to the play "Anathema", which was banned in the Russian Empire (Moscow Art Theater, L. Andreev). The scene "The mother of the deceased child begs Lazarus to resurrect him". Phototype on the drawing of Kazimir Malevich. In the lower right corner is the monogram "KM". Original passepartout is substituted (original captions are saved).
Information:
The play "Anatema" based on the drama by Leonid Andreev was staged at the Moscow Art Theater in 1909 and was almost immediately banned throughout the Empire. Kazimir Malevich executed a number of drawings and phototypes for the performance. It is believed that his works could also have been censored after the production, therefore they are considered rare.
