HUGE BACTRIAN POTTERY VESSEL WITH STAMPED ELEPHANTS
Ca. 3000 - 2500 BC. A terracotta jar with a globular body that narrows towards the flat, circular base and a short, slightly flared neck with an everted rim. The shoulder is decorated with a horizontal relief band depicting elephants facing the same direction. Size: 500mm x 400mm; Weight: 8.7kg Provenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in the early 2000s in Belgium; previously in 1970s European collection. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
